Illinois State University has implemented a policy that mirrors what many universities are practicing with students who have not declared a major. This policy has been developed as an effort to service our students more appropriately and encourage degree-seeking status.
“Illinois State University requires all students to have a declared major upon completion of 75 hours of college level coursework, including transfer students. To be eligible for financial aid and in order to be consistent with federal financial aid guidelines, Illinois State students with 75 hours or more must be enrolled in a major program leading to a degree.”
This policy may affect our transfer students with a high amount of transfer credit. Admission files for these students will be carefully reviewed and evaluated on a case-by-case basis for admissibility to the University and to their intended major.
The University has developed the Find Your Major Web site to assist students with the major exploration process.
